Earn Money Online Without Investment in 6 Ways

1. Freelance Writing

Content is the fuel of the internet. WordPress users’ alone publish 350+ new blog posts every minute (that’s 500k posts every day for those of you keeping count). All this content, of course, needs to be written.
This is where you, the freelance writer, step in.
Despite what the hoard of writers bidding on low-paying projects on Freelancer or oDesk may lead you to believe, there is actually a huge shortage of professional, high-quality writers online (emphasis on quality). While you certainly won’t laugh and giggle all the way to the bank, you can make decent enough change to fund your college education or make some extra cash on the side. The best way to start your freelancing career is through platforms like Scripted, Textbroker and WriterAccess.
How to Take it to the Next Level: Establish a website with your portfolio and solicit clients (including agencies) directly.

2. Bum Marketing

Simply put, people who sell products through their websites are called marketers. People who sell products through free websites are called bum marketers.
Bum marketing is when you shill products through free-to-use platforms such as Blogger, WordPress, Squidoo and HubPages. Bum marketing can be extremely lucrative when done right, but requires significant investment in terms of time and effort. You also have to play by the rules of these free-to-use platforms, which can be quite stringent about certain subjects (make money, lose weight, credit checks, etc. which attract spammers like flies to honey).
How to Take it to the Next Level: Buy a domain name, a hosting account, and start marketing on your own website.

3. Social Media Marketing

Unless you've just been unfrozen in time like the Encino Man, you already know how big social media is. A whopping 700k pieces of content are shared on Facebook alone every minute. As you can expect, dipping your hands in the stream of social media can be very lucrative.
Making money through social media is as easy as creating Facebook pages/Pinterest boards/Twitter accounts and sharing content things about a certain topic (say, weight loss). As traffic builds up, you can share commercial links to make money by selling products. Some services such as Adf.ly also pay out money for sending visitors through their links.
How to Take it to the Next Level: Start a blog and offer a free product for download in exchange for an email address. Direct social media traffic to this blog and build up an email list of probable customers.

4. Do Odd Jobs on Amazon Mechanical Turk

Unlike its 18th century chess-playing namesake, Amazon Mechanical Turk isn't a hoax or scam. This is a real crowd sourcing platform where people can do odd jobs like data entry, copy-pasting content, submitting articles, etc. for money. Working on Mechanical Turk is probably the easiest money you will ever make online. The pay isn't great and the tasks can become dull very quickly, but if you have time on your hands and an immunity from boredom, you can make enough to supplement your regular income.
How to Take it to the Next Level: Start your own data entry firm and outsource work to sub-contractors in India, Bangladesh, etc.

5. Publish eBooks

In August 2012, Amazon revealed that Ebooks were outselling printed books on its platform. No one was surprised; Kindle was by then a legitimate phenomenon and Ebook-only authors were even climbing on top of NYT Bestseller lists.
The huge volume of Ebooks being consumed today presents a tremendous opportunity for writers to make money. You can publish a book on the Amazon Kindle platform within minutes. With the right publicity (and the right quality), you might even find yourself in the shoes of Amanda Hocking, the 26 year old paranormal romance author who made a million dollars through her books.
How to Take it to the Next Level: Corner your niche (weight loss, romance novels, financial advice tend to do the best) by creating several books focusing on separate topics/themes. Start a blog to create an additional stream of traffic you can direct to your Kindle page.

6. Teach Online

The online education industry is at a tipping point. The high cost of college and the lack of real-world skills among graduates has sprouted a burgeoning industry dedicated to teaching students everything from programming to productivity skills. By one estimate, this market is valued at $56.2 and is expected to double by 2015.
There is no limit to what you can teach – programming, time management skills, leadership lessons, writing techniques, etc. Since courses often tend to be priced in the low three digits, a handful of students can translate into a nice chunk of change.
How to Take it to the Next Level: Create multiple courses to cover every facet of the skill. Start a website to generate additional traffic and sell your videos as well as additional Ebooks for even more cash.

How to Make Money Using oDesk

Looking for Freelance Work? Try oDesk.com

oDesk.com is a website that brings together freelancers looking for projects to work on and buyers who need to hire such freelancers. The website features nine categories of work which include:
  1. Web Development
  2. Software Development
  3. Networking & Information Systems
  4. Writing & Translation (the area I use)
  5. Administrative Support
  6. Design & Multimedia
  7. Customer Service
  8. Sales & Marketing
  9. Business Services

Each category is broken down into sub-categories. For example, within Business Services there is Accounting, Bookkeeping, HR/Payroll, Business Consulting, and many others. Just about any service that could conceivably be completed via the Internet is listed within oDesk, which makes it a good place for every type of freelancer and not just freelance writers such as myself.
As with any product or service, oDesk has its ups and downs. One good thing about it is that unlike many other sites which let freelance writers work online, it does not require any membership fees be paid and does not take a cut out of a writer’s earnings. Instead, the buyers who post job listings pay the 11% fee. Buyers post a listing of the job with information relevant to its completion and freelancers (who are called Providers) can sign up for an account and browse the listings for jobs they think they can successfully complete.
Of course, providers have to be able to prove that they have the credentials to be successful, and oDesk helps them out by offering 326 tests of all sorts that users can take for free. Some titles include Windows XP, U.S. English Basic Skills, HTML 4.01, Technical Writing Skills Certification, and Help Desk Certification. No matter what area you are looking to freelance in, it is highly likely that oDesk has a test you can take to prove you proficiency in it. Once you take the test, you can display the results of it in your profile. The Top 10% and Top 20% of all scores get a special badge to be displayed in the profile, and users with perfect scores get another badge in addition to this. Tests are a great way to spice up a profile to interest buyers and buyers can set specific scores on tests as criteria for their job listings.
Tests are not the only way to enhance a profile; a skills area is provided as is a portfolio. During the sign-up process, providers are highly encouraged to upload previous works that they have done that will be relevant to the listings they apply for. Skills can be typed in and an optional description can be given as well. Previous jobs can be input, and users can choose their hourly wage to be displayed in their profile.
This brings me to another point; there are two types of contracts offered via oDesk buyers; the first is for fixed price work, and the second is for hourly wage work. Fixed price work is self explanatory. Providers apply for a job and can view the buyer’s budget and then input the price that they would do the job for. A cover letter section is given with every job application and users are highly encouraged to write cover letters that are unique and captivating. Providers can also upload a sample of previous work to show the buyer, and many buyers ask for work samples.
There are a few negative things about oDesk. The biggest one is probably that you have no recourse if you do fixed work and your buyer flakes out on paying you. Those who work for hourly wages must run the oDesk Team application so that screenshots are taken of their work and cached on an hourly basis. Only one screenshot per hour is required for most jobs and four are taken per hour, so if one screenshot of you talking on a messenger or browsing Facebook accidentally slips in, you can delete it and submit a better one. Many people find this method intrusive but if you are truly staying on task with your work you should not have a problem with it and it protects the buyers which means more jobs are brought to the site. Everybody benefits!
At any rate, the hourly wage workers can file complaints with oDesk if their buyers do not pay them what was agreed to up-front and their screenshot logs prove they were doing the work outlined by the contract. Fixed rate workers have no such recourse with the only exception being buyers who can prove their providers plagiarized (which doesn’t help providers who get screwed). The best way to avoid this is to only work for buyers who have paid out money a few times already, have high ratings, and are considered trustworthy buyers by those who leave them feedback.

How To Make Money Online From Freelancer.com

Whether you want to work from the road or no, picking up a little extra work on the side can never hurt. I can't believe I used to work a 9-5 without any back-up. What if I got fired just like that? After being in numerous jobs where people were canned at a drop of a hat, I know you can never be too secure about your position.

Sorry, did I just scare the bejeezus out of you? Well no fear, freelancing is here. I've been taking on contract jobs through Freelancer.com for about four months now and I'm proudly 100% freelance. Not rich, oh no, but boss free, schedule free, meeting free, ridiculous make-work project free, office free.

Almost all my projects came through Freelancer.com, though I'm using Craigslist and Elance now too. These sites let you set up a profile and bid on contract projects. The sites take a small cut of your fee and once you're paid you can transfer the money to your account via PayPal.

Getting work through them is a bit of an art; I'm still learning it but I've picked up a few tricks. Here's how you can crack Freelancer so it starts making you cash money.

Create a Good Looking Profile

It's a pain in the ass to fill out all this crap. After all, you've already done it for LinkedIn, Monster.com, 1000othersites.com. Can't these jerks just talk to each other? However, making yourself look as human as possible is essential given the number of scammers out there. Load all that juicy education, work experience, and your portfolio (a PDF of clippings is fine). Most importantly, upload a nice smiley photo of yourself not looking like a scammer. Make sure it's just your face, up close and personal. Get verified too (you need to confirm your bank account via Paypal. Set up an account there, it's super easy).

Choose Your Niche

Specialize to corner a certain market. For example, there's plenty of writers on Freelancer.com but most are non-native speakers and writing teams that produce sub-par results. I let them handle all the writing jobs that offer $1 per article (seriously) and only focus on higher-level employers who are looking for real copy (not plagiarized, not spun, not utter crap) who will pay my rate ($30/500 words). So, there's my niche and so far there aren't too many other writers crowding my space.

On the other hand, my boyfriend was interested in producing music for apps etc. but realized there were too many professionals bidding. You're going to get a leg up if you have actual experience (I have written for Toronto media and can provide links). Here's what you do: if you want to work in SEO, offer to do it for free for a website and then use that in your portfolio. Volunteer first, get paid later.

Bid Often, Friend

Employers seem to love assigning projects right away. You'll get emails notifying you of new projects every day and I encourage you to apply as they come (I set aside 15 minutes every day to do new applications).

Underbid and Pay Up

Employers prefer workers who have starred ratings on Freelancer.com and previous feedback. To get a leg up you'll need to bid low on your first couple of projects, no matter your previous experience and standard hourly rate. Freelancer lets you see the project budget and the average bid of all applicants. Bid lower then everyone else (sorry guys) and then shell up the $1.50 to get your bid placed at the top of the pile. This is a must-do--almost every project I've gotten it's because I paid that buck fifty to be on top.

Read the Project Description

Employers get frustrated when bidders just send off their standard message and cover letter and don't even bother to see what the project entails. Take that extra few seconds to scan the whole thing. Often employers will request you include a keyword in your bid to make sure you actually read their description. Not doing this is a simple way to screw your bid.

Write an Honest-To-Goodness Customized Cover Letter

I have a few templates for my Freelancer.com projects--ones for eBook ghostwriting, product copy, website copy, and social media marketing. Then I add a line about why that specific project would be a good fit for me. Any employer worth their while will be pissed if they realize you're just sending out the same message to 100 other people every day--obviously you won't show dedication to their individual project.

What To Include In the Cover Letter

Depends on your field but I always say I'm a native speaker right off the bat. It definitely distinguishes you in any language-dependent task because the majority of people will not fit that description and employers want it. I always include live links to my work and offer to send references. I mention one related job (social media writing in publishing) but mostly stress qualities such ass professionalism, reliability, actual journalistic experience, and consistently top-notch work. Employers can read your profile for the details.

Yay! Someone Messaged Me

Perfect. If they're hesitant because of your lack of experience give them an email address of a past employer. Beware of anyone who wants sample work up front--if the project offers ongoing work I'm game but if it's a one time deal, forget it. Same goes if he or she wants a detailed picture of how you're going to complete the job. Giving them an idea is fine but you don't have time to work for free. They either trust you or they don't.

Yes! I Have a Project

Sweet! Make sure the employer sets up a milestone before you start work--you don't want to be in the hole for unpaid projects. Then make sure you get very clear specifications. Avoid any offers of a Skype chat--you need to work to your hourly rate and you can't be wasting time talking about something that can probably go in a short message. Deliver on time, ask questions if you need to, ask for the release of the milestone as soon as you're done, be courteous, and ask if they'd like to hire you for additional projects. Repeat customers have been a huge boon to my business, letting me spend more time working and less applying for jobs.

What Else?

Also, look for employers who offer clear project descriptions that are neither too short or too long-winded. Short means they don't know what they want (bad), long-winded means they may be super picky and will likely drive you insane (also bad). Thankfully, you'll also find some super cool people who will be a breeze to work with and who will hand you not only money but awesome, engrossing, fun projects. It's a gamble that's worth it.

Earn Money Online By Writing Articles On iWriter

What is iWriter?

iWriter is a content provider that links freelance writers with clients who need content writing. To date, they have more than 100k registered writers who have written a total of 3 million articles. In the last 1 month there have been over 250k jobs posted.
Clients post jobs for writers to accept for payment. They provide the details and specifics of the article they need writing and then the payment is sent once the requester has accepted the article. Like many similar sites, iWriter takes a cut of what their writers earn (20%) which is used for PayPal processing and CopyScape plagiarism checker fees.
Writers have the option of being paid weekly (every Tuesday), biweekly (every other Wednesday) or monthly (5th or 25th - writer's preference) once the $20 threshold has been met.
One of the great features that iWriter has is the feedback and rating function. When a writer has submitted an article to a client, the client can then rate them from 1-5 start and leave a comment as feedback that other people can view. The writer can then also rate the client and leave a comment about them, too.
Everybody at iWriter starts off as a standard writer, but has the opportunity to progress to higher levels that pay more. After you have submitted 30 articles and have an overall rating of 4 stars or more, you progress to Premium writer. After 30 articles and a 4.6 rating or above, you become an Elite writer.

How Does it Work?

iWriter is used by many different people and businesses for various reasons. Some businesses need content provided for their website, some people need articles about their products or services and some are just looking for content that they can post to their blog.
People or businesses who are looking for content will sign up and post a project. They have the option of choosing what type of content they are looking for (have new articles written, have articles rewritten or have an ebook written), the language they need the content to be written in and the amount of words they require. They can also choose whether they want to submit their project to all writers, or just the ones at higher levels.
It is also down to the client to provide the style of writing they require (friendly tone, professional tone or another which they must specify) and any special instructions to the writer. Special instructions generally contain more information on what they are looking for, along with information about keywords and links that need to be used in the article.
The posting will then appear on the website for writers to claim.
Any writer that is interested in the project can then claim it and start writing. There is a time limit for the article to be written, which varies depending on the amount of words the project requires. Writers are given between 1 and 5 hours to write the article before it is put back onto the board for somebody else to claim.
  • 1 hour for 150 word articles
  • 2 hours for 300 word articles
  • 3 hours for 500 word articles
  • 4 hours for 700 word articles
  • 5 hours for 1,000 word articles
Once the article has been submitted to the client, they have 3 days to accept or reject it. Articles may be rejected for a number of reasons at the client's discretion. If the article is not what they are asking for, has bad grammar, spelling mistakes or bad sentence structure, has too much or too little keyword use or is written in the wrong tone, there's a good chance it will be refused. If you have followed the directions supplied by the requester then you shouldn't have to worry about being rejected. If, after the three days are up, the article has not been accepted or rejected, iWriter will automatically accept it and the funds will be transferred to the writer's account.
Freelancers on iWriter are paid a set amount for each article that they write. Starting off as a standard writer, those rates aren't very high, but as you write more and move up the ranks, the money you earn per article increases.
Starting off on iWriter, you are a standard writer. The payouts for articles at this level are as follows:
  • $1.01 for 150 word articles
  • $1.62 for 300 word articles
  • $2.43 for 500 word articles
  • $4.05 for 700 word articles
  • $6.08 for 1000 word articles
At the time of writing, I have earned $15.18 in just over 24 hours from 5 submitted articles and have 3 more articles waiting for approval which will bring me another $6.25.
It's not a lot of money, but it is legitimate. I currently have a 5 star rating, and if I can keep that rating once I have had 30 articles accepted I will become an Elite writer, where the payments get much better.
Here's an example of how much better it will get...
At the moment there is an Elite project for a 500 word article that will pay the writer $16.20. The usual rate for a 500 word article at Elite level seems to be $8.10. If I can get to that level and write a few articles per day, I'll be happy.
There's also a chance to earn more money through special requests. If you have provided great work for a client, they have the option of adding you to their favorites list and can contact you to send you projects that they want writing. Special request articles pay 5% more than open articles.

How Do I Join?

Joining iWriter as a content provider is easy. Simply go to this page, click "Register" and fill in your details. Anybody can sign up to write on iWriter. There's no rigorous admission process or tests to determine your skill as a writer. Once you have signed up, you can start accepting jobs and earning money right away.
Until you have received 5 rating for articles you have written, you may only accept another job after waiting 40 minutes since submission of the previous. Once you have had 5 articles approved, however, this restriction is lifted.

You may view the description of a particular job by clicking the “Details” link. You can also take a look on the background information of the client when you click on the username or the number of proposals received.

How to Submit a Great Proposal on Elance

Once you find the job you want to work on, you need to submit a proposal. You can write your proposal in the Proposal Description box which you will find on the right hand side. You can type in up to 4000 characters, use some rich text formatting preferences and attach some sample articles.
Each proposal will cost you Connects, which is a number of points you get, depending on your membership level. If you run out of Connects, you can purchase more on your Elance profile.
You will notice that if you want your proposal to be sent to the top of the list it will cost your more Connects than if you send it as a standard proposal.
Whilst it's good to try cover all your skills and expertise, I advise you to keep your proposals short and sweet. Clients will get lots of proposals, sometimes up to 50, or even more, and they simply don't have time to read everything. So make sure your proposal stands out even if the client only glances past it.
First of all, always read the job advert fully, as some clients try to catch you out and ask you to start the proposal with a specific phrase.
Secondly, always answer the questions in the job advert. If the client says - please bid with budget and time frame - ensure that your proposal includes budget and time frame.
Add a line about your education and experience and always attach samples of work and even links to published work on the web.
Part of completing the proposal is submitting a bidding price. If you bid without a price you can choose the “Will Submit Amount Later” button, however, you need to update your proposal later if you want the job to be awarded to you.

Is it Safe to Make Payments on Elance?

You can make payments on Elance using your debit or credit card, or your Paypal account. Clients pay contractors through Escrow which is a safe and competent payment structure for a job delivered online. When a job is awarded, the employer and freelancer will agree on milestones and the funds will be placed in the Escrow account.
This way, the client knows that the funds won't be released until the job is completed and the freelance is also assured that the job will be paid, as the funds are already in Escrow. If there is any dispute between the client and the freelance, a member of the Elance team can intervene. Please note that for this reason it is important to keep all conversations in the Elance workroom chat, and avoid sending work via Skype or private email.
Elance is a genuine freelance websites that offers a platform online for clients and freelancers to work together. Whether you are a copywriter, virtual assistant, web developer, SEO expert or you have any other skill that can be used online, you can make money at home with Elance.
Sign up to Elance here and start making money today and you will be personally recommended through my Elance profile and receive a gift of 10 Free Connects which you can use to apply for jobs or rarely 10$ to your pocket directly.
Elance is absolutely free for the basic membership. You have the choice to choose more complex memberships with added benefits but for the first month I always advise to go for the free membership and just get a feel of Elance and how it works.
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to leave me a comment or send a private message on the Contact Us page. I am always happy to help.

10 Simple Things That Everyone Can Do To Earn More Money Online

Earn Money by Cutting Back

1. Cancel any memberships or subscriptions you don’t use. For example, do you subscribe to a magazine or a service like Netflix or Hulu? If you don’t use the subscription on a regular basis it might not be worth paying for anymore. The same goes for memberships. What about cable television? Cable is expensive and for most people it’s not even worth paying for, since there is so much media available through other methods online and through Hulu, Netflix, YouTube and torrent websites.
2. Take a look at your variable expenses, like phone bill, car insurance, groceries and gas. Can you get cheaper car insurance or cut your phone bill in half? Eating out less and being smart with how much you spend on food and health items can help save money and put more money in your pocket.
3. Go through your belongings and sell things on Craigslist, eBay or Amazon. You most likely have a couple of things laying around that you don’t use anymore or don’t really need anymore. Think of old electronics, clothing and other items that you can part with and list them online for sale. You could also look at recycling centers in your area that may allow you to recycle electronics like TVs, cameras and computers.
4. Sell unwanted things to a pawn store or to friends. Pawn stores are a great option if you want to get rid of unwanted items and make some quick cash. Pawn stores sell a variety of items that people have sold to them, so there’s a good chance they might be interested in whatever you’re trying to sell. Also, post your items on social media for friends to see. Oftentimes a friend might like to purchase something you have for sale because they can get it at a discounted price and it’s something they want or need. This is especially true with items like baby clothing and other baby items, adult and children’s clothing, purses and electronics.
5. Host a clothing swap or yard sale at your house. Charge an entrance fee for others to join and sell their belongings too. You can sell your unwanted belongings and make money on both the entrance fee and items that sell. A clothing swap or yard sale is a good way to get some friends and family involved to sell their unwanted items, then everyone can make a little extra money this way.

Simple ways to earn money

6. Write an e-book and sell it on Amazon and Smashwords. Writing an e-book is easier than ever. All you have to do is write your book in Microsoft Word or any other similar word processing program, upload it to Amazon, use Amazon’s cover creator and then list it for sale through their Kindle Direct Publishing site. It’s also a very easy process to upload a book to Smashwords and sell e-books there. You can make anywhere from a couple of dollars a month to considerably more depending on how many copies you sell, what you choose to charge for the e-book and the royalty that is paid out to you. It’s an easy way to make some extra money continuously.
7. Write articles for websites. There are several reputable article websites out there that pay per article you write. With a little time and effort you can make a little or a lot of extra money, depending on how many articles you want to write.
8. Sell your photos online. You’ve probably got tons of original photos you’ve taken on your phone, with a camera or another device throughout your life. There are several websites where you can sell your photography. Here’s a list of photo websites where you can list photos for sale:
9. Make something and sell it on Etsy. If you are crafty then Etsy is just the place for you. You can create one-of-a-kind products and sell them on Etsy. Make sure to advertise them on social media like Pinterest, which is great for specialty items, crafts, clothing and gifts.
10. Sell your plasma. Do a search to find the closest location to you that will allow you to sell your plasma. Oftentimes you can earn up to $130 for the first four times you donate plasma. Make an appointment, go in to have it done and walk out with cash in hand. You can repeatedly donate so this is something you can do occasionally to make a little extra if needed. Plasma donors should check with their local donor facility to find out how often they can donate. Donating plasma is a little more involved than donating blood and requires a little more time.

24 Easy Ways To Make Money On The Internet

24 Easy Ways To Make Money On The Internet

1. Website Building

If the internet is a country, then websites are like real estates. I’m hoping by now you have a general understanding that real estates are valuable in the physical world – digital real estates work the same way. By building a website, you’re creating your own plot of online “land.”

You can fill this land with whatever you want, but you have to promote it through social media (and anywhere else you can think of) for this to be successful. When you build traffic to your land, you can sell people whatever you have to offer. In order to build a website, you need a host (i.eGoDaddy), a template (i.e WordPress), and content.
The first two parts are easy to find, and content is only as difficult as you make it. You can post blogs, items for sale, pictures, videos, or whatever you want. Opening up your own website gives you the potential to make money from the avenues I’m going to mention.

2. B2B Marketing

An online business model I love is utilized by GetVoiP, an affiliate marketer based in New York. GetVoiP acts as an agent for business communication providers. They maintain updated listings of VoiP providers, including ratings, comparisons, consumer reviews, in-depth knowledge of market and end-user trends, and expert opinions from business professionals on a variety of topics related to business consumers. By not only keeping abreast of news, but providing detailed analysis of products being offered, GetVoiP is able to generate traffic to their site and increase their clout with businesses.
The more online clout you have as a business, the more money you’ll make. If you’re known for making lasting connections (as is the case with GetVoiP above), then you’ll have no issues building your online brand. You’ll be recognized in your community and begin to build a buzz in your industry. Tracking your numbers (how many people view your site, click each ad, and make a purchase from that click) gives you the leverage to expand this part of your business, enabling you to continue building your online rep.

3. Google Adsense

If that sounds like too much technical information for you, there is an easy button – Google’s advertising platform is as simple as signing up, enabling (on Blogger) or pasting a small code on your website, and allowing the advertisements to automatically roll in. The problem with this program is that you don’t get any commissions – and you don’t get to control the ad content. This is useful for some, but powerful users will want something a little more robust.

4. Amazon Associates

Amazon has an Associates program for site owners and bloggers. They offer a search tool to find the right products and services from their site and a variety of ad styles to display on your site, including text-based and banner images (digital billboards) like this:
Each item purchased through your Amazon links give you a commission. It doesn’t take high volume traffic to achieve results, either. I began making money with the program when I only had 1,000 hits per month on my site. They can apply your earnings to your Amazon account balance, issue you a check, or direct deposit into your bank account. If you love Amazon, you’ll love their associate’s program.

5. Rakuten Linkshare

Amazon and Google are far from your only options for online advertising. Rakuten Linkshare is a great place to search for other affiliates for your ads. Through their program, you can get customized ad links, email links, and banner ads for Starbucks, Walmart, iTunes, and a slew of other popular brands. With this program, you can also find smaller companies, regional or specialized brands, and more. I run a combination of Google, Amazon, and Rakuten’s programs, and my monthly income is approximately $150 from these programs. It’s not a lot of money, but it’s also not a lot of work for residual (it means recurring…since the ads are permanent…) income.

6. Company Referral Programs

Speaking of the benefits of permanent ads, banners and links aren’t the only ways to earn a little bit of dough off your online endeavors. By having a website, you gain the power of emailing companies to ask them for things. I have no shame in letting the yoga company whose mat I’m looking into purchasing know that I have a blog and write for yoga publications – it sometimes gets me discounts.
Other times, I gain a valuable business contact in PR, advertising, or other aspects of corporate sales. Sometimes I just get a free drink. Either way, money in and of itself is worthless. Ditch the middle man and use the internet to barter what you have and can do for what you need.

7. Klout

If you have a social media account, try out Klout. The company tracks your social media usage, determines how big and what type of audience you draw based on the subject matter of your updates and posts. Using this information, you’re qualified to receive free items, tickets, etc. Check their website often to find ways of earning free stuff by doing what you’re already doing online…boring the rest of us…

8. EBay

If you have anything you want to sell, then EBay is the place you need to seriously consider doing it first. Personally I’m not a fan of the site because of the work it takes to build up a reputation. If you’re willing to grind through that process, you’ll be rewarded with many privileges – people have gotten rich selling books about how they got rich selling everything on Ebay.

9. Amazon

If you start getting too big for EBay or decide you want to try a different flavor, Amazon has a marketplace as well. I prefer using Amazon because I can depend on their shipping, have a Prime account, and trust their reviews (overall, not usually singularly, although occasionally that as well).
The difference between Amazon and EBay is that EBay (though still filled with new items) is seen as a used marketplace between individual parties, whereas Amazon (which is filled with offers for new and used merchandise from the 3rd parties) is viewed as a Wal-Mart-type superstore. As a consumer, this difference leads me to use Amazon, so it only makes sense to target on my own demographic.

10. Etsy

If you’re crafty (and I mean that in more than one way, wink wink), you’ll enjoy Etsy. Handcrafted items are the bread and butter here. Plenty of people make decent side money on the site, which is basically an EBay for crafters and artists. Set up a sellers account with Etsy, and you’ll be asked to set up your virtual storefront and put up at least 5 goods for sale.
Once you have this down, you’ll be a budding Etsy entrepreneur. Provide great quality to your customers, and they’ll often return. Many people are willing to pay a premium for quality handmade designs. Etsy (like EBay and Amazon) takes a cut off the top for selling items through their site. PayPal takes another cut, and you have to be careful with taxes on all income, so be diligent while building your online business.

11. Craigslist

Craigslist is the modern equivalent of the classified ads that dominated the days of newspapers. These quick ads are easy to navigate and use, and they’re geographically linked. Whether you’re selling something or offering a service, this is a great place to start learning the intricacies of Craigslist.
Posting ads on Craigslist is technically easy, but people often have fears about posting their personal information on the site. I communicate mostly through email when doing business on Craigslist, and I’ve never run into any issues. I’ve never been ripped off, nor have I been murdered or raped for using the site. It takes common sense, so use your best judgment, but don’t assume someone is a thief just because of their preferred communication method. For an extra bonus, google “funny Craigslist ads” to see some delightful examples of guerilla and grassroots marketing.

12. Indeed

Maybe what you need is a job. It doesn’t matter which job search site you prefer using (even Craigslist) – Indeed tracks them all, and then some. You can find jobs posted on company websites, through temp agencies, and more at Indeed. If money is something you really need, Indeed is most definitely the place you want to visit to browse career opportunities.

13. Elance

Where Indeed excels at finding job postings across the web and acting as a search crawler for employment, maybe a full-fledged career is too big of a commitment at this point in your life. Elance is a site to find freelance work of all types. I’ve used it for quick writing, editing, copywriting, resume building, and other odd jobs and temp gigs. The experience has been great.
Elance offers a wide array of technical, data entry, accounting, and other freelance and temp gigs. If you’re just looking for something short and sweet, log in, input and showcase your marketable skills, and begin searching through their job database, using any parameters you desire. Once you submit a bid, you’ll receive an acceptance or denial – you may get a few rejections, but don’t sweat it. Negotiate the terms of your bid, and get to work. You have money to make.

14. Mturk

If you’ve heard of crowdsourcing (and even if you haven’t), Amazon’s Mechanical Turk program is a great place to get involved. Much like at Elance, you input your info and skills. You then are able to search for different menial tasks ranging from identifying inappropriate web content to transcribing audio recordings to basic data entry work.
Just like at any other job, the more work you do, and the better your quality, the more opportunities you’ll have to make money. The payouts are often small, and your payment is received in Amazon credit, but Mturk is a great place to make mindless money while veg’ing on the couch watching TV.

15. LinkedIn

LinkedIn is a social media site for professionals. This isn’t a direct way to make money, but it’s a great way to connect to your current and potential peers, customers, clients, vendors, and more here. You’ll build a reputation and get in the loop on important developments in your chosen career path and/or industry. One day an old college buddy may hit you up for a dream job you never considered at the exact moment you are looking for a new vocation. Whether you like it or not, keeping your LinkedIn profile current is a great way to get surprised with new work opportunities out the blue.

16. Care.com

If you’re an experienced nanny or babysitter, Care.com is the place you want to make money. By listing yourself on the Craigslist of Childcare, you’ll broaden your reach and increase your odds of finding the right gig at the right time. You can be pickier with what kids you watch when you have the reputation and traffic to pull in more customers. Join Care.com and start making money by investing in the future of our youth.

17. ThePirateBay

I support bootlegging – I don’t see it as being immoral or unethical in any way. I used to bootleg quite a bit in my youth, and I still do on occasion today (although not yet today in particular, I more meant “in the present”). If you want to hustle for your money, do what you must, baby. Download some software, music, movies, or other assorted digital goodness here and start slangin. It’s not an easy life, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.

18. iTunes

If you’re a musician, writer, artist, tech nerd, pundit, or can produce any type of audio, video, or text worth consuming, you may be able to sell some stuff in Apple’s flagship iTunes store. By selling your work here, you’re able to stand next to the marketing clout of big business. You can make a healthy living off the iTunes store, and there’s no better time than now.

19. Yelp!

If you have a business, you want to get listed on Yelp! You may not use the software, but some people do, and they use it religiously (and I don’t mean they’ll kill you over it). By listing your business on Yelp!, you’re putting yourself on the map. From here, you also need to start using Yelp! Write reviews of places you go. It’ll be worth it in the long run.
Soon, you’ll have a dozen or so reviews under your belt and can hire yourself out as a Yelp! reviewer. There are ethical and moral questions to doing this, but the title of this piece is “ways to make money,” not “ethical ways to make money,” and I am a former Bank of America/Countrywide employee, so what’d you expect?

20. Wikipedia

Another seemingly free site you can make money from is Wikipedia. People who say it’s easy to edit Wikipedia have clearly never tried editing Wikipedia – it’s a pain. Thankfully it’s a pain for companies as well, so many of them are willing to pay editors to assist them in the editing process. You’ll become a bounty hunter in a way, choosing your own lines to cross and keep. If editing is something you like to do, and you’re willing to put in the work it takes to learn Wikipedia’s dispute process, roll up your sleeves and try this one out.

21. Blogging

I make the bulk of my money from blogging. In addition to the advertising revenue streams mentioned above, I also receive flat rate payments for blogging from various blogs throughout the web. I’m paid to write as a whistleblower, financial analyst, reviewer, commentator, and more. Writing for other sites builds traffic to my personal blog. The traffic for this blog gives me clout to present to advertisers.
To create your own blog, you don’t even need a web domain. You can start a completely free blog on either WordPress or Blogger. Each of these sites has its ups and downs, but you can’t beat the price. You generally want to keep blog posts between 150-500 words until you have a few dozen under your belt. Links between your blog posts encourage people to stay on your blog once they find it, increasing traffic. Once your blog is up, promote it on social media for the greatest effect.

22. Kickstarter

If you have a passion project, Kickstarter may be exactly what you need to get it off the ground. Celebs like Zach Braff and Melissa Joan Hart have used this site in attempts to fund their movie projects. Some crack dealers in Canada inspired a “crackstarter” campaign from Gawker for pictures of the Toronto mayor smoking crack with them. All you need is a dream, a goal, a budget, and a great pitch to convince people to come to the site and donate to your Kickstarter campaign. Panhandling isn’t dead – it’s gone digital…

23. Extreme Couponing

If you’ve never heard of extreme couponing. Once you’re versed on the idea, what you have to do is a bit difficult at first, but it’s a great way to both save and make money: go to hip2save.com and get a feel for the types of deals that are out there (both online and in the physical world). Once you’re comfortable with the process, start searching for the best deals in grocery, retail, and online shopping. After a month or two of extreme couponing, you’ll have enough cleaning, hygiene, and food supplies stocked up to save a noticeable amount of money. Now maybe you don’t need to make as much…?

24. Social Media

No matter what you do to make money online, promote it on your social media accounts. You have a base of people who are already interested in you and have a vested interest in your brand – why would you not want to take advantage of that? By promoting yourself and your projects on your social media accounts, you’re greatly increasing the chances of people actually giving you money in exchange for your goods and services. Stop being shy and get out there.
